French Butcher Buys Meat Vending Machine to Skirt Laws
The city of Paris has its first meat vending machine in the fashionable 11th arron dissement. The Telegraph reported that the machine will make fresh raw meat available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, despite French laws requiring businesses to close on Sundays. This is not the only fresh food vending machine in France. Paris got a baguette vending machine in 2011, and artisan cheese shops have cheese vending machines as well. Four other cities in France have meat vending machines, and the trend is even more widespread in Germany. Deli owner Pascal Bidron said, "We see people walking past and looking at our display on Sunday afternoon, but we're closed then. We can't work seven days a week so that's why we decided to install the machine."
