Children Who Spend Time Outdoors Have Better Vision

  Journal of the American Medical Association found that spending an extra 40 minutes a day outdoors for three years can reduce myopia, or nearsightedness, in children. CBS News reported on the study saying researchers from China monitored the effects of sunlight on 1,900 first grade children over a three year period.  The children given extra time outdoors showed a 23 percent relative reduction in incident myopia.  While this is less of a reduction than researchers hoped, it still is a benefit which is easy to apply for schools and parents.  The study's author, Dr. Mingguang He, said that early intervention is important because, "small children who develop myopia early are most likely to progress to more severe cases."
