News Bias Exists

Of all the media that purport to be unbiased, newswires is the prime example. Other media avenues rely upon news services like Reuters, Associated Press, Tribune News Service, and CNN Wire for "just the facts" concerning what significant events are happening in the world. People expect to find hints of bias in detailed reports and special investigative pieces - but not so much in the shorter news headline articles that are intended to inform rather than to teach a lesson.
I assumed the same when I started as an editor. Rather, I assumed that they at least tried to be unbiased. I have long left that assumption. Here is another example of why I did. CNN Wire sent out a story on how "A community is rallying around an Ohio couple who says they were denied wedding services because of their sexual orientation." The videographers did not give CNN a comment. The homosexual couple, the local mayor, and other officials, the local chamber of commerce, and even local Facebook comments were all quoted. All were saddened by the denial of service and promised action to prevent such activities.
