A Defense of Home Births

Why would a woman in this modern, technological age want to give birth at home? Due to a recent news story where the state kidnapped a family's three children because the baby was born at home, I decided to clarify some misconceptions that some people have concerning home births. I myself have birthed seven of my nine children in my home, with the assistance of a midwife, so I speak from experience.
Most of the objections are over the safety, the unconventionality, the new-age thinking, and the primitiveness of home births. I would argue that home births are at least as safe or safer than a hospital birth, are more sanitary, less stressful, cheaper, and the midwives are as competent as doctors.
