"But I Read on the Internet…"

Posted: Thursday, February 26th, 2015

There is a common irritation among those who claim a monopoly on knowledge (professionals) when they hear someone back their beliefs with something they "read on the internet."  They know that the internet cannot be trusted because 46% of what is on there is false (I made that number up).  And unless you are a professional like them, chances are you are not able to discern the false from the true.

I wonder if twenty years ago these same people said the same thing about magazines or television.  As in, "You can't trust half of what is on those…" followed with an appeal to only use recognized journals of that particular profession.
