Tax Payers Flee Blue States for Red Ones
As Democratic states continue to raise taxes to fund their socialist programs, tax payers are fleeing to red states to find tax relief. According to Personal Liberty, an analysis compiled by Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) shows that New York lost 114,929 residents who left because of taxes. Other liberal states, including Illinois, California, Connecticut, and Massachusetts saw thousands of tax payers leave for Republican-governed states which offer lower taxes and fewer business regulations. Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, expects the trend to continue. "People move away from high tax states to low tax states. Every tax refugee is sending a powerful message to politicians," he said. "They are voting with their feet. Leaders in Texas and Florida are listening. New York and California are not." Conservative states are welcoming the tax refugees with open arms. Texas gained 152,912 people and an estimated $6 billion in AGI last year due to the folly of the blue states' tax systems.
